Tanjung Datu National Park 3D2N
Day 1 Kuching – Telok Melano – Tanjung Datu National Park
0900 hours – Pick-up from hotel in Kuching and proceed by road approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach Sematan town. Have lunch at a local restaurant / coffee shop then continue drive to Telok Melano Malay village to board boat (15 mins boat ride) to Tanjung Datu National Park. If the tide is low or sea conditions prevent boat landings at the park HQ, arrive at the small bay of Telok Upas and walk 15 minutes to Park HQ. Arrive at Tanjung Datu National Park HQ and check in accommodation (Twin Room with fan & shared bathroom). Afternoon, hike with your guide to the Viewpoint trails then visit the turtle hatchery. Free & easy, relax on the beach or go swimming. Enjoy dinner at the park HQ. After dark go on short night walk and search for wildlife such as wild boar, sambar deer, mouse deer, barking deer, civet cats and other nocturnal creatures. Return to the park HQ then take a stroll along the beach to see if any turtles have come ashore to nest. Overnight at park accommodation.
Day 2 Tanjung Datu
After breakfast, proceed for a jungle trek along the Pasir Antu Laut trail. Enjoy the forest scenery along the 2.7 km trail and keep a look out for wildlife. Gibbons, banded langurs and hornbills are sometimes spotted on this trail. Take a short break before continuing through the pristine forest to Antu Laut beach. Have a swim at the beach before returning along the forest trail. Have a late lunch at the park HQ.
After lunch, free & easy, relax on the beach or go swimming. Dinner included. Take a stroll along the beach to see if any turtles have come ashore to nest. Overnight at park accommodation.
Day 3 Tanjung Datu – Telok Melano – Kuching
After breakfast, free & easy, relax on the beach or go swimming. Board boat and return to Telok Melano village and then overland drive to Sematan town. Have lunch in a local restaurant / coffee shop in Sematan. Return to Kuching arriving late afternoon.
Please note turtle sightings are not guaranteed. Accommodation at Tanjung Datu National Park is very basic (Twin Room with fan & shared bathroom at Park HQ). Park uses solar energy for electricity.
Recommended time to travel will be from Mac to Oct. Nov – Feb is the monsoon season so therefore sea condition may be rough. Some activities are subject to weather conditions and may be re-organized to best meet operational situations.
Things to bring / wear
Long trousers and long sleeve shirts, torch light, trekking boots / shoes, raincoat, insect repellent and drinking water.
